Admissions
Discovery Montessori School's mission is to cultivate an inclusive and vibrant community that promotes knowledge, creativity, independent thinking and mutual respect.
Application for admission into Toddler and Pre-Primary programs is understood to be a commitment to the completion of the 3 year Pre-Primary cycle which includes the Kindergarten year, and continue at Discovery Montessori through the Elementary program.
All parents interested in enrollment for their children must observe in one of Discovery's classrooms: Visitor Guidelines Link. Observations are scheduled from mid-October through mid-May. An interview between the child and the lead teacher may be requested for placement in the Pre-Primary and Elementary programs. This is to determine the child's emotional and academic readiness for the program being applied for. Application deadlines traditionally happen in February.
Final acceptance of students and grade level placement will be determined after all admissions criteria has been met. Admissions decisions are based on interviews with the Director of Admissions and the School Director, and the child's past experience in school. All children are accepted contingent upon satisfactory adjustment to the school in the opinion of the lead teacher and the school's director.
Discovery Montessori School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, or national origin or ancestry in the administration of its educational policies, admission policies, or any other school-administered programs.
Need based scholarships are available upon completion of one full academic year of attendance.
Observations
The school maintains an open door policy on parent observation, however, we like the children to become well settled before observations and visits begin. Classrooms are open for observation from mid-October to mid-May. Advance notification is required so observation guidelines can be given out and time set aside for the Director to answer any question you may have.
These scheduled observations are for observing your child working in the class, not for working with your child. There are other opportunities through the Parent Association for you to volunteer within the classroom and school. When observing, we suggest that you advise your child so that the classroom routine is not disrupted, and to minimize any confusion he/she may have when you leave.
