Volunteer Opportunities
Faculty, staff and parents share a commitment to the academic and personal growth of our children. Through involvement on the Board of Directors, school committees, special events, fundraising campaigns, and class projects, parents give generously of their personal and financial resources to insure that their children receive the highest quality education possible. There is a wide variety of volunteer opportunities for parents including:
Classroom Activities
• Room Parent: Act as a liaison between the teacher and the classroom parents.
This is a management position that entails coordination of classroom events,
holiday celebrating and communication with parents.
• Pre-Primary Reading Parent: Work with children one-on-one as they read to you.
• Field Trip Chaperone and Driver
• Special classroom projects: Serve as Holiday Coordinator, Gardening Assistant,
Material Maker, etc.
Classroom Fundraising
• Sally Foster: Each September, families may purchase gift wrap to raise money
that directly supplements the classroom budgets of each program.
• Book Fair: In conjunction with May Day, the school holds a Scholastic Book Fair.
The primary goal of the book fair is to help build our classroom libraries.
• Parent Association Logo T-shirt Sales: A couple of times a year the PA offers
logo wear for sale. All profits are used by the PA to purchase items to be used
by the entire school.
School-wide Activities
• Parent Association (PA): Many volunteer positions are available. The PA
organizes and coordinates numerous parent and family social events and
activities, on and off campus. The PA also supports the staff and oversees
our annual Fall Festival and May Day celebrations.
School-wide Fundraising
• Annual Auction: Discovery Montessori holds its one major fundraiser in the
spring. Funds raised underwrite special school wide programs or projects and
provide seed funding for future campus expansion and building. A variety of specific
positions are available to assist the hosting of this major fundraising event. In
addition, all parents are asked to support this event with everything from the
procurement of auction items to event day help.
• Annual Giving: Each fall the parents and other supporters are asked to donate
to our Annual Giving Campaign. These supplementary funds also are designated
for special programs and campus expansion.
• Monetary Donations: Discovery Montessori gratefully accepts all financial
contributions.
Discovery Montessori is a nonprofit 501(c) (3) corporation, and, as such, all contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowable by law. Receipts are cheerfully given!
You are always needed. Please volunteer when you can!
