1. Read each day. We suggest you read everything from books to magazines to even the newspaper. Talk to you child about what he or she has read and ask questions to help practice reading comprehension. Keeping a journal of summer activities is a great reinforcement as well.
2. Practice math facts. Flashcards make a great game to help reinforce math facts. If your child is working on multiplication facts this is a great time to work on mastering those skills.
3. Have your child help you around the house with chores. In Upper Elementary the students will be given more responsibilities in the classroom and at home is the perfect place to start.
We have also enclosed a supply list and a wish list. Your child may bring their supplies with them to the Student Orientation Day which is scheduled for August 22nd or they may be dropped off any day during the week of August 18th.
This year we would like to invite all Upper Elementary students, new and returning, to join us on Friday, August 22nd for our Student Orientation Day. We are working hard this summer to give our Upper Elementary classroom a whole new look and we would love for all students and families to get acquainted with the new environment. This is a time for students to explore their classroom, meet the teachers and receive all pertinent information regarding the Upper Elementary routines and policies. We strongly recommend that all students attend the Orientation Day to ensure a smooth transition into the Upper Elementary environment. If you are unable to attend, please contact us at the classroom (247-5782) during the week of August 18th.
The first day of school is Monday, August 25, 2008. Drop off begins at 8:25 a.m. and the school day ends at 2:50 p.m. Please remember that Discovery Montessori has a uniform policy. All students are to be in uniform every day except for optional dress days. Please refer to the Parent Handbook for uniform policy specifications.
We want to wish you and your children a wonderful summer. We look forward to seeing you in August and working with you throughout the upcoming school year.
Sincerely,
